Saying Goodbye To High School and Hello To Columbia University

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Here is a snippet of Juliette’s journey at Doral Academy and a sneak peak of what her exciting new path at Columbia University will bring her.

Juliette Richart

Senior

Juliette Richart recently received her acceptance letter from her dream school, Columbia University. This renowned university has an acceptance rate of merely five percent, arguably making it one of the most difficult universities to be admitted into. Richart has worked endlessly in order to achieve her dream with her parents’ support and her own personal motivation. She was able to do so by gaining experience and passion as the president of National English Honor Society, co-president of the theatre troupe, vice-president of National Science Honor Society, and a member of the mice research team.

Although she struggles with an exorbitant amount of stress, Richart says that “…picturing [herself] opening that acceptance email always kept [her] going.” She recommends setting short term goals that would eventually lead to your end goal in order to provide a sense of achievement on an average basis. Nevertheless, Richart says it is crucial to recognize “your limits and your abilities” to keep realistic aspirations.

Regarding admissions, she advises to start as early as possible. “I believe there is no such thing as a perfect application, every time I read my essay I found things to improve.” Richart says, “For the application, just present your best self. It’s all about marketing yourself effectively, by presenting the extracurriculars you are most passionate about and writing the best essays you can.”

She plans on majoring in biology in order to possibly become a genetic counselor, but most importantly, she strives to live her life full of joy and no regret.
