Homecoming Week Recap

With September coming to an end, we also have something students cannot wait for…homecoming week. During homecoming week we get to celebrate our school spirit, attend the annual pep rally, the homecoming game, and most importantly, the homecoming school dance. This year, we outdid all of our previous years with the most creative spirit week themes.

We start off Monday with “Proud to be American”, where all grades were assigned a different state of the United States and were told to dress in a way that represents that wonderful place, and I have to say, things definitely got wicked between New Yorkers, Hawaiins, and even cowboys. On Tuesday, we chose “Out of this World”, where we were allowed to choose outfits that represent things like aliens, space, and further on. Moving along, Wednesday was “Green Out” where we got a chance to dress in the color green, as a symbol of importance for the victims and families of school shootings. Further on was Thursday, arguably the most exciting day of this magical week, spirit day. Highschoolers from grades 9th-11th represented our school color white, and the seniors with the center of attention, got to represent us in the color red. We all faced off in the annual pep rally where different grades competed in games and shows. And lately, Friday was “Way back When” where we got to bring out our inner child to play and dress up as our favorite childhood characters.

I believe we are missing the most magical part of this week, the “Enchanted Night” homecoming dance. Filled with lights, stars, and dreams, our staff pulled off an amazing night at the Marriott Hotel making it a night to remember for all students who attended. Between exquisite food, beautiful decorations, and an awesome DJ, Doral Academy once again succeeded in creating the best Homecoming dance and spirit week all of us students dreamed of.
