Florida’s Basketball Prodigy: Devin Carter
Devin Carter, senior at Doral Academy Charter High School, has already made a name for himself in the basketball world. Named as Florida’s reigning Player of the Year in Class 7A, he averaged 25.7 points and 5.8 rebounds a few months ago. Already having received eight offers from distinguished universities, the well-known player will not stop soon. According to an article from the Miami Herald, Carter will announce his decision on his birthday, March 18th.
He began to play basketball when he was four years old and was instantly enraptured by the sport. His father, Anthony Carter (former NBA player and current assistant manager for the Miami Heat), heavily inspired Carter to work even harder towards his beloved sport. Having lived in Texas, Minnesota, California, Colorado and recently moving to Miami, he says Miami is more competitive in regards to athletics.
Although many may believe he faces a lot of pressure, he revealed he has never felt such weight from his parents or coaches since he has always been putting his most into basketball. If he could go back and give advice to his younger self, it would be “to play smarter.” He encourages younger students to focus on their passions and to continue working diligently.
Devin and other players of Doral Academy’s boys basketball team have exclusively made the team renowned nationwide. The team has been able to reach a winning streak of 50 consecutive games and have been Class 7A state champions, as stated in the Miami Herald. Devin Carter sparks inspiration into students and shows that working hard while playing smart is the name of the game.
