Class of 2023 Offers Advice to Incoming Freshmen

With the end of the school year approaching, the class of 2023 is eagerly anticipating their graduation and the start of a new chapter in their lives. Undoubtedly, they have faced various challenges throughout their high school experience. The pandemic cut their freshman year in half, forced them into virtual learning during their sophomore year, and required them to wear masks throughout their junior year. Fortunately, things returned to normal in their senior year, but it is now swiftly coming to an end. As they prepare to transition to college life, they have some invaluable advice to impart to incoming freshmen.

1. Expand your horizons within the school.

While academics are certainly important in high school, don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. Colleges are now looking for well-rounded students who have gone above and beyond to get involved in their community. Joining honor societies and clubs can be a great way to demonstrate your commitment to something beyond the classroom.

2. Be sociable and connect with new people.

High school offers many opportunities to meet new people and make friends. Whether in class, clubs, or extracurricular activities, you’re sure to encounter people you’ve never met before. Take the chance to strike up a conversation with someone new; they could end up becoming a lifelong friend.

3. Don’t forget to live in the moment!

High school can seem overwhelming, with a long list of things to remember and deadlines to meet. But it’s important to remember that high school is also a time to grow and discover who we are and what we want in life. So don’t forget to take a break from the books and enjoy the experience!
