Candypalooza: Best Candy for Halloween Night

October 31st, marks one of the year’s spookiest nights…Halloween. Children of all ages go knocking door to door in hopes of getting their favorite candy. From Tootsie Rolls to king-sized chocolate bars, the opportunities are endless. Everyone has a preference, the one candy they hope to get. We here at Firebird Digital, interviewed students for their thoughts on the best and worst spooky treats.

Candy corn is a Halloween speciality, After asking students their opinion, the results came back 50/50. Some people like candy corn and the other half refuse to eat any time of the year, especially during Halloween. Senior Andrea Cumare did not hold back, stating “Candy corn is a crime against humanity.” Another candy on the bottom of the barrel – which caught writers by surprise – was Smarties. The question is, why were these so hated? The only explanation for this is both of these candies are boring and outdated. As they get older, children start to get tired of the same goodies. Eventually, this distaste reflects on their flavor palette.

On the other hand, the candy that’s beloved by all, is Hershey’s. Hershey’s came back with 100% positive results. They are a classic go to treat. They’re the ultimate backup, and the safest option. The candy that took second place was the amazing Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. This is a favorite due to the combination of peanuts and chocolate. It blends together, to create the best sweet treat. It is a life changing combination, and can never fail (unless you are allergic to peanuts). Plot twist… the 3rd on the list isn’t chocolate. Sour Patch Kids, was ranked 3rd highest. It is an iconic sweet and sour mix, and a guilty pleasure treat for most.

Halloween, regardless of what candy you get, will always be an ageless holiday. Even if you don’t dress up, it’s still crucial that you participate as much as you can. It’s a tradition to give out candy to kids, the same way people did when you were younger. You will never be judged for what you give out, as long as you keep up the Halloween spirit.
