Making an Impact: Key Club at Doral Academy

Hey Firebirds! Are you looking to make a positive change in your community, and also gain volunteer hours? In that case, Key Club will give you everything you need and more! This organization offers a plethora of events that not only benefit the community, but also help create an impactful high school experience. After all, the work you do not only helps yourself, but the thousands of underprivileged Miami citizens whose lives can change with just one act of kindness.

Still not convinced? Let’s check out all the different ways you could make an impact.

1. Community Service Events: At the heart of Key Club are the various community service projects. From organizing food drives for local shelters to hosting cleanups to keep our beaches beautiful, Key Clubbers roll up their sleeves to make a difference. These events have left the biggest mark in our community, helping hundreds of thousands of people each year and being majorly responsible for the beauty of our city

2. Drives: From food, clothing, and supply collections to toy, book, and hygiene product drives, the school rallies as a whole to address these needs. These initiatives not only provide essential support to those in our community but also cultivate a sense of responsibility and compassion among students. Living in this bubble of consumer culture, drives are an important wakeup call to remember the simple things we take for granted in life, and help us appreciate and value them all the more.

3. Collaborations and Partnerships: Key Club isn’t just about internal initiatives. They often collaborate with other clubs, organizations, or even businesses to magnify their impact and reach a wider audience. For example, this month the club is hosting a Toy-Sorting Christmas Event in partnership with Miami-Dade County to bring holiday cheer for children who may not be able to afford it. Inside the school, Key Club is also collaborating with Green Club on December 9th to host a Holiday Market to promote sustainability and local-owned businesses.

4. Leadership and Personal Development: Members have opportunities to take on leadership roles, allowing them to grow their skills in organization, communication, and teamwork. Key Club nurtures leadership potential in every member, and truthfully, the ability to lead a club of this size doesn’t go overlooked by colleges.

5. Social Activities: Besides the rewarding work, Key Club fosters friendships through partnership, bonding opportunities, and holiday meetings. Making a difference is even more fulfilling when shared with friends who can help you reach your goals! Besides, what better way is there to get to know someone than picking up garbage with them?

6. National and International Connections: Being part of Key Club means being part of something bigger. Members get access to resources, connections, and support from a vast network of Key Club members across the world. School-wide, members often connect with community service leaders in Central and South America to expand their service opportunities.

Remember, being part of Key Club isn’t just about fulfilling volunteer hours or a good college app; it’s about making a lasting impact and fostering a sense of responsibility toward the community. So, if you’re ready to have fun while changing the world, join us at Key Club!
