NYFW: Recap

It’s that time of the year! Fashion month has officially begun. From the glamorous runways to the stars in attendance, this event continues to raise the bar for the fashion industry. In the course of four weeks, we see designers present their newest collections in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. As New York’s shows come to a close, it’s time to review the week’s most memorable moments.

With designers like Michael Kors and Brandon Maxwell putting on unforgettable shows, Stuart Vevers takes the cake with his Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection. Coach has been famously known as “America’s House of Leather.” For years, the brand has focused on this material and its iconic role in fashion. Even though we do see quite a few looks revolving around leather, Coach decided to turn the tide this season. Vevers created several outfits that are made from cotton or wool which was intended to introduce a softer side to the fashion house. Not only was it done beautifully, but it was also the perfect way for Stuart Vevers to transition into a new phase of his designs.

Now, that wasn’t the only significant moment that occurred during the show.

During Coach’s show at the New York Public Library, two anti-leather protestors joined the models and strutted down the catwalk holding up a “Coach: Leather Kills” sign. Even though the brand incorporates a lot of leather in its products, it tries to upcycle as much material as possible to lower its carbon footprint.

Another special collection that was presented in New York last week was Tory Burch’s Spring 2024 collection. Known for its preppy and vibrant designs, the brand is one that never goes out of style. The fashion house has always been loved and respected, but in recent years, Tory Burch has gained a lot more attention. Especially in their latest show, their spring collection was aimed at a younger audience by creating youthful yet modern designs. Burch wanted to implement some fun elements of the 60s while also keeping the looks clean and sophisticated.

Finally, it’s time to talk about a brand that not only redefined femininity in fashion but is also one of the most influential fashion houses in the world.

Carolina Herrera.

Venezuelan-American designer Carolina Herrera is an icon in the world of fashion. She has designed timeless pieces that exude elegance, class, and power. About five years ago, designer Wes Gordon became the new creative director of the brand. He has managed to design collections that are personal to him but also keep the essence and elements of Carolina Herrera. In their most recent show, which took place at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Gordon showed some of the most stunning pieces of clothing I have ever seen. New York was his inspiration for the spring collection which explains why we see a lot of 90’s elements. He elegantly captures the city’s magic in a way that not many designers have been able to do.

All in all, this New York Fashion Week was quite memorable. Once again, designers have wowed the public with their creative and artistic designs. They constantly challenge norms and create new standards for the fashion industry. After all, New York is the best place for inspiration and continues to serve as a canvas for self-expression. This year’s fashion week has reminded us that not only is fashion always changing, but that the possibilities it brings with it will always endless.
