Celebrating Artists on National Art Day

National Art Day, celebrated on October 25, marks a single day dedicated to celebrating the importance that art poses. Art has been used to record many points in history, to portray life in one of the most beautiful ways possible.

Through being an art teacher and the National Art Honor Society sponsor, Mr. Pita is always encouraging students and fueling their passion for art. “I tell them to never leave a piece unfinished and to pursue their dreams as an artist.” As an educator, he paves the way for students to be perceptive and immerse themselves in their craft.

One of these students being Ryan Gomez, the National Art Honor Society President. He views his work as a vital form of self expression in his life. “Art allows me to express the abstract through the physical. I am able to make an impression on others through a language of visual art that can speak to anyone.”  The limitless bounds for creativity in art excites students and give them a way to express themselves.

Fellow firebird digital writer, Victoria Rivas, had the opportunity to interview Gabriel “GG” Gimenez. Not only is he an internationally recognized stick figures expert artist, he is also a Doral Academy Alumni from the class of 2008. Gimenez emphasized the importance of his artistic contribution to the school. “Being an alumni from the school, this project meant a lot to me. When I was in those last years of high school I remember being very involved with drawing and creating.” Through hard work and dedication, it’s possible to achieve those dreams, venturing into the unknown in your artistic endeavors. “I’m very inspired and happy to have been able to collaborate with the school, to have my work now be a part of the school and that hopefully that my work can inspire other students to create and do cool things as well.” Every time a student walks by these murals, they can see it as a reminder of how art can be expressive and even bring inspiration to those who never saw art as something they could do.

That’s what this day is all about. Get creative, be imaginative, be inspired by everything around you, and pursue art in whichever form you choose. Show your support by posting with the #ArtistsDay in your social media on October 25th and following local artists such as Gabriel Gimenez on instagram @ggartwork
