Volunteering Opportunities in Miami as a Minor

This Tuesday you read my fellow writer, Juliette Richart’s, timely article of 17 things a minor in Miami could do for fun. Miami is a beautiful city for people of all ages and if you want to give back, do good for those in it. There are many opportunities; here, I present you 17 of them.  

Summer Camp Counselor

As the warm days approach, take your chance at being a kid’s favorite camp counselor this year. Try calling the camp you went to as a kid, if not, check these out.


  1. Alper JCC:

Their Camp J and Tennis Camp are two ways you can volunteer and have a fun time. Lead children ages 3 and up through activities like arts and crafts, team sports, and science.

  1. Miami Children’s Theatre:

          Let out your inner thespian and be director’s helper by guiding your campers in singing, acting, and dancing classes. Each Creative Camp session ends with a musical performed by the kids that are sure to leave you proud.

  1. Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade:

          Assist Project Learn campers in a variety of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) activities and help them build skills like friendship, teamwork, and confidence.

          Guide students through different strands of the performing arts, as well as in their educational periods. Roxy makes sure their campers are feeding their passion and feeding their minds, and you could be a part of it.

Animal Shelter

          Love animals? Take care of the cutest cats and dogs waiting to be adopted in Miami-Dade shelters.

  1. Miami-Dade Animal Services Center:

          After an orientation and application, you are on your way to spending your days with loving pets and helpful staff.

          Once you’ve applied for the cat lover’s dream gig, you’ll be contacted to go to the location that best suits you. Take care of all types of cats and assist staff in feeding, washing, etc.

Miscellaneous

A few different places to volunteer at and serve a great purpose.

  1. CC4HORA:

          Children’s Clothing for Homeless, Orphans, Fosters & Adopted is a nonprofit organization started by Miami-Dade high-schooler Celine Borroto-Alvarez. Donations of clothing, books, toys, or school supplies, as well as working in the delivery process can be exchanged for volunteer hours.

          Students and parents work together to prepare and distribute food to the homeless community of Miami.

  1. Miami Children’s Hospital:

          Volunteers can explore their interest in medicine while working hands-on in a hospital and helping less fortunate children. Potential volunteers must complete an application, attend orientation, and buy a uniform.

          There are a variety of positions available all year round, but students focus on inspiring curiosity in museum guests and help make it a better place for children to learn.

  1. Students Demand Action:

          Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded and run by high school students that promote common sense gun laws. Volunteers work at helping events run smoothly and participating in activities based on the meeting.

  1. The Little Lighthouse Foundation:

          Assist children and families of South Florida facing educational, financial, and medical hardship. Volunteers will help activity leaders in things from dance and meditation classes, to homework help and meal time.   1. Savannah’s Cakes 4 Kids:

          Have a passion for baking? Use your skills to fundraise for My Charity 4 Kids, Inc. which works towards funding research in the field of congenital eye disorders, Autism, as well as grant funds, and supplies to these families and non-profit organizations that share a common interest.
